Really loved the idea of this challenge straight away. Think it is something that could be used in so many ways and taps into so many key skills ( apart from the technical skills) such as summarising, selecting key information, storyboarding, writing good copy/ scripts.
I've used Premiere a little and this was the excuse I was waiting for to get stuck in. I went through the whole process of storyboarding, writing the copy, shooting and finding the archive footage before I even opened Premiere. This was a great insight into how complex the process is, especially when planning shots from different angles and thinking about continuity.
Once in the software I got right into it and started to experiment a little with transitions and key frames. I was planning on having a go with After Effects too but simply ran out of time. Again, can see how this can become incredibly engrossing. as such I think this is such a powerful medium for students to get involved in.
Have been thinking about ways I can integrate this into my course and been checking out some inspiring examples. Came across the DS106 course
which has loads of inspiring projects that students could try. Can't wait to try come of these ideas out with my own students.
